Generative AI arrived in our schools a few years ago with ChatGPT and our collective concern about its future for our work. In the time since, we have been negotiating its place in education. We seem to be narrowing in on several applications that are useful in making people “smart.” One activity that has focused my attention is creating custom chatbots. In general, this finds one loading sources into the bot which will use those sources first when finding answers to prompts. The bot does not focus exclusively on those sources, but in my experience these chatbots do find answers in the sources to a greater degree than the general chatbots.
This is the first of a series of posts in which I share some of the questions I posed to chatbots into which I have loaded my own writing.
1. What is the main challenge educators face when integrating technology into the classroom?
Despite the long history of computers in schools and significant investments in educational technology, many educators struggle to create truly effective technology-rich learning environments. This is often due to a lack of a unified approach and the abundance of conflicting advice on how to best implement technology.
