Live Captioning in Google Chrome

Students and others who need the spoken words in audio content playing in a Chrome browser tab to be presented as text can enable live captioning in the Google Chrome web browser.

This can be used as a method of seeing captions when using:

  • Video or audio in Google Drive that has no caption tracks (caption tracks are encouraged)
  • Inspace.chat video conferences
  • Zoom meetings in the Chrome web browser

To enable live captioning in Google Chrome:

  1. Click the ‘Customize and control Google Chrome” menu (the three dots in the top right)
  2. Click “Settings”
  3. Open the advanced options
  4. Click “Accessibilities”
  5. Use the “Live captions” toggle to enable or disable the live captions
